Study in Poland

Poland's real pull for Indian students is Medicine. NAWA, the Polish government's own promotional agency, explicitly names India as a top source country specifically for Medicine applicants — this isn't a consultancy talking point, it's the Polish government's own characterisation of its Indian-applicant base. But most consultancy content, including the current live edugoabroad.com page, understates what Medicine actually costs (its closest fee line, "Dentistry & MBA Courses, EUR 8,000-15,000/yr," is a different, cheaper programme), misses a brand-new mandatory visa document, and never mentions the post-study work permit at all.

Poland is not only a Medicine destination, though. Genuine Engineering, IT and Business tracks run alongside it at Warsaw University of Technology (WUT), AGH University of Krakow and SGH Warsaw School of Economics — and this page gives both sides honest, proportionate coverage. See the Medicine in Poland guide and Engineering in Poland guide below.

The four numbers above — 8 Nobel laureates, Medicine tuition from EUR 13,700/year, the 9-month once-only post-study permit, and the University of Warsaw's QS #271 rank — are the ones worth memorising first, and each is explained, sourced and expanded on in its own section below.

Why should students choose Poland?

NAWA itself names India as a top source country specifically for Medicine applicants — a structural, government-acknowledged fact, not a marketing claim. That's the single clearest reason Poland deserves serious attention, whether you're targeting a 6-year MD or a competitively-priced Engineering, IT or Business degree.

Beyond Medicine, students get a comparatively affordable general-tuition band (EUR 2,000-6,000/year for Bachelor's), a confirmed India-eligible scholarship (the NAWA Lukasiewicz Programme), a currently no-hours-cap work exemption for full-time students, and a confidently-sourced research reputation — 8 Nobel Prize winners per NAWA, including Maria Sklodowska-Curie. Add a genuine, once-only 9-month post-study work window and Poland's pitch is honest and differentiated, not a copy of any other EU destination.

Bachelor's, Master's & Medicine in Poland

Poland follows the standard Bologna two-cycle structure — except Medicine, which runs as a single, non-split 6-year uniform long-cycle Master's. Each level has its own full guide below.

1st Cycle

Bachelor's

Standard Bologna 1st-cycle degree, EUR 2,000-6,000/year — Matura-equivalent required for admission.

2nd Cycle

Master's

Standard 2nd-cycle Master's from EUR 3,000/year — MBA-type programmes run EUR 8,000-12,000/year instead.

Cost of studying in Poland

Two honestly different tracks, presented side by side, with Medicine always shown as BOTH an annual figure AND a 6-year cumulative total.

General tuition, by level
LevelTypical non-EU tuition
Bachelor's & long-cycle Master's€2,000–6,000/yr
Standard Master'sFrom €3,000/yr
MBA-type€8,000–12,000/yr
Medicine (MD) — the number that matters
University6-year total
Medical University of Warsaw€82,200 (€13,700/yr)
Jagiellonian Medical College (26/27)€96,000 (€16,000/yr)

The live edugoabroad.com page's fee table doesn't list Medicine separately at all — its closest line, "Dentistry & MBA Courses, EUR 8,000-15,000/year," is both a different programme AND priced lower than verified Medicine tuition (EUR 13,700/yr Medical University of Warsaw; EUR 16,000/yr Jagiellonian University Medical College for 2026/27, up from EUR 15,500 the prior year). No 6-year cumulative Medicine total appears anywhere on that page. Always ask for the full 6-year total — EUR 82,200-96,000+ in tuition alone, before living costs — not just the per-year figure. See the full cost of studying guide.

EUR 330-430/month is the official government cost-of-living estimate — but it assumes DORMITORY accommodation. Private housing, especially in Warsaw (studios from ~EUR 300/mo alone), costs meaningfully more. See cost of living in Poland for the honest range.

Scholarships for Indian students

The NAWA Ignacy Lukasiewicz Scholarship Programme is the one confirmed India-eligible route — here's exactly how it works. See the full scholarships guide.

NAWA Ignacy Lukasiewicz Programme

Tuition-free Master's in engineering, technical, agricultural or natural sciences — includes a preparatory course. Confirmed India-eligible.

A strong fit for Engineering applicants

Engineering is explicitly eligible under Lukasiewicz — genuinely strong for applicants targeting WUT, AGH or Gdansk University of Technology.

Beyond Lukasiewicz

Only the Lukasiewicz scheme is confirmed here.

Not yet verified — Fulbright is a US programme, not Poland-specific; CEEPUS and Visegrad are primarily Central-European mobility schemes. Confirm current India-eligibility for any other scheme before relying on it.

Student visa: types, fees & process

The full process — the national "D" visa, the new NAWA document, and post-arrival registration — is covered step by step in the complete document & visa process guide.

1

Visa type & processing

  • ●National "D" visa for study purposes, followed by a Temporary Residence Permit after arrival.
  • ●Processing time — a genuine discrepancy: study.gov.pl says "up to 15 days"; a VFS Global checklist says "up to 60 days." We present both — plan around the longer figure.
2

Fees & new NAWA document

  • ●Visa fee: unverified from any official source this pass — confirm directly with the Embassy/VFS Global before applying.
  • ●NEW since 1 July 2025: most first-year Bachelor's/uniform-Master's Indian applicants must submit NAWA "written information" alongside the visa — omission "will result in visa refusal" per the Polish Embassy in India.
  • ●Post-arrival: Temporary Residence Permit, PLN 390, valid up to 15 months initially, renewable up to 3 years.
3

Document checklist

  • ●Valid passport, with sufficient remaining validity
  • ●Letter of admission from a Polish institution
  • ●Proof of paid tuition fees, where applicable
  • ●Travel insurance — minimum EUR 30,000 coverage
  • ●NAWA written information, where applicable (see above)
  • ●Accommodation confirmation and a passport-style photo
4

Application, step by step

  • Secure admission at a Polish institution
  • Complete NAWA pre-verification, if applicable, alongside your visa prep
  • Apply for the national "D" visa with the full document set
  • Allow for the 15-60 day processing discrepancy — apply early
  • Travel to Poland once approved
  • Register for your Temporary Residence Permit (PLN 390) after arrival

Rule of thumb: apply as early as possible relative to your intended start date — the processing-time discrepancy (15 vs 60 days) means a tight timeline is genuinely risky.

Note: The full checklist, mapped to exactly where each document is used, is covered in the document & visa process guide and the NAWA pre-verification requirement guide.

After Graduation

Post-study work options

Poland's route is a temporary residence permit for a graduate to look for a job or run a business — granted once only, for 9 months. This is notably shorter than, for example, Germany's 18-month route, and it is completely absent from the current live edugoabroad.com page.

It requires a diploma from full-time Polish studies, mandatory health insurance, proof of accommodation and sufficient funds, and is applied for with the Province Governor (Wojewoda) while still legally resident. Full detail is in the complete post-study work permit guide.

Eligibility, precisely

  • Diploma from full-time studies completed in Poland
  • Granted once only — not renewable or repeatable
  • 9 months to look for a job or run a business
  • Apply with the Province Governor (Wojewoda) while still legally resident

Popular courses & fields of study

Medicine is Poland's clearest demand driver for Indian students — but Engineering, IT and Business at named institutions are genuine, well-established tracks too.

Medicine (MD)

6-year uniform long-cycle Master's, 360 ECTS. See the Medicine in Poland guide.

Engineering

Anchored at WUT, AGH and Gdansk University of Technology.

Business & Management

Anchored at SGH Warsaw School of Economics — Bachelor's 2026/27 at ~EUR 5,000/yr.

IT & Computer Science

A growing track alongside Poland's Engineering strength, particularly at WUT and AGH.

Law & select long-cycle fields

Like Medicine, Law also runs as a uniform long-cycle Master's rather than a split structure.

PhD — Research Track

Generally tuition-free with scholarship — requires a Master's for entry.

Poland vs other study destinations

If you're also weighing other European destinations — especially for Medicine — this is where working with a consultancy that covers multiple countries genuinely helps. Living, working & building a career in Poland

Work rights, housing, insurance, FMGE, research and alumni — the practical side of studying in Poland.

Work rights during study

Currently, full-time students are exempt from needing a work permit, with no hours-per-week cap. A reported 1 July 2026 change would narrow this to MSWiA-approved institutions — confirm with udsc.gov.pl closer to enrolment.

Accommodation

Dormitory EUR 100-150/mo single, EUR 60-80/mo shared; private shared apartment EUR 150-200/mo; Warsaw studio from ~EUR 300/mo — Poland's most expensive city.

Health insurance

International medical insurance before arrival, or a voluntary NFZ agreement after arrival (~EUR 15/mo). Separately, visa-stage travel insurance needs minimum EUR 30,000 coverage.

FMGE for Medicine returnees

Poland's medical degrees are EU-recognised, but Poland is NOT FMGE-exempt for India — graduates must clear the FMGE for NMC/State Medical Council registration, per natboard.edu.in.

Research & academic reputation

8 Nobel Prize winners per NAWA, including Maria Sklodowska-Curie (Physics & Chemistry) — a confidently-sourced, genuinely strong claim.

Alumni network

No official centralized "Poland alumni network" statistic or body was located this pass — individual institutions run their own programmes; a deliberate, stated gap, not a guessed figure.

04NEET Eligibility for MBBS in Poland▾

An India-side NTA requirement, handled without an invented Poland-specific cutoff.

What's required

NEET, administered by India's NTA, is required for any Indian student pursuing medicine abroad, including Poland, as a precondition for later NMC recognition and FMGE eligibility. Confirm current cutoffs directly via NTA channels.

05FMGE/NMC Screening After Poland MBBS▾

Poland's single strongest available content differentiator — a confidently-sourced fact no competitor gives its own page.

The precise fact

Poland's medical degrees are EU-recognised, but Poland is not FMGE-exempt for India — graduates must clear the FMGE for NMC/State Medical Council registration, sourced to natboard.edu.in.

06MBBS in Poland Without IELTS/NEET▾

A heavily searched angle, handled honestly — no invented blanket claims.

The honest split

IELTS varies genuinely by institution — no Poland-wide waiver confirmed. NEET remains a required India-side step regardless of which Poland institution you attend.

07The New NAWA Diploma Pre-Verification Requirement▾

Effective 1 July 2025 — mandatory, high-stakes, and essentially absent from competitor content.

Who it affects

First-year Bachelor's/uniform-Master's applicants (including Medicine) whose secondary diploma isn't from an EU/OECD/EFTA country or IB — which covers most Indian applicants. Omission "will result in visa refusal" per the Polish Embassy in India.

08Poland Student Visa Guide▾

11Cost of Living in Poland▾

The official EUR 330-430/month estimate is dormitory-based, not universal.

Private housing costs more

A Warsaw studio starts from ~EUR 300/month alone — before food, transport and other costs. Budget above the government's dormitory-based baseline if you're in private housing.

12Scholarships in Poland▾

One confirmed route, led with — and an honest flag on the rest.

Lukasiewicz

Tuition-free Master's in engineering/technical/agricultural/natural sciences, with a preparatory course. Confirmed India-eligible.

14Master's in Poland▾

2nd-cycle degrees from EUR 3,000/year — plus the uniform long-cycle exception used by Medicine.

The exception

Medicine (and select fields like Law) runs a single, non-split 6-year, 360-ECTS uniform long-cycle Master's instead of the standard split structure.

15Engineering in Poland▾

Poland is not only a Medicine destination — WUT, AGH and Gdansk are real, competitively-priced options.

Where to study

Warsaw University of Technology (QS #487), AGH University of Krakow, Gdansk University of Technology (both #801-850 band) — all Lukasiewicz-scholarship-eligible fields.

SGH Warsaw School of Economics, priced honestly with its actual confirmed 2026/27 figure.

SGH's actual price

EUR 2,500/semester (~EUR 5,000/yr) for the English-taught Bachelor's, 2026/27. MBA-type programmes run EUR 8,000-12,000/year.

17Popular Courses & Fields of Study in Poland▾

Medicine as the real demand driver, alongside genuine Engineering, IT and Business tracks.

Proportionate coverage

NAWA names India as a top Medicine source country — but Engineering, IT and Business at WUT, AGH and SGH deserve equally honest treatment.

18Best Student Cities in Poland▾

A genuine gap no competitor builds standalone city pages for — this site does.

The five hubs

Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, Gdansk and Poznan — each home to at least one QS-ranked or reputationally strong institution.

19Study in Warsaw▾

Poland's most institution-dense city — and its most expensive for accommodation.

What's here

University of Warsaw (QS #271), WUT (QS #487), Medical University of Warsaw, and SGH — all in one city.

20Study in Krakow▾

Poland's most prestigious university city, and a major Medicine destination.

What's here

Jagiellonian University (QS #303) and its Medical College, plus AGH University of Krakow for Engineering.

21Accommodation in Poland▾

The full range, so the dormitory-based cost-of-living estimate isn't mistaken for a universal figure.

The range

Dormitory EUR 60-150/mo; private shared apartment EUR 150-200/mo; Warsaw studio from ~EUR 300/mo — Poland's most expensive city.

22Health Insurance for Indian Students in Poland▾

Two distinct requirements, kept clearly separate.

Visa-stage vs post-arrival

Visa-stage travel insurance needs minimum EUR 30,000 coverage. Post-arrival, a voluntary NFZ agreement runs ~EUR 15/month — don't confuse the two.

23Career Prospects in Poland▾

The real post-study window, and the confident FMGE reality for Medicine graduates.

What happens after graduation

A once-only, 9-month post-study permit for job-seeking, plus — for Medicine graduates — a clear FMGE requirement to practise in India.

24Research & Academic Reputation in Poland▾

8 Nobel Prize winners per NAWA — a confidently-sourced claim used without the hedging some destinations required.

The laureates

Maria Sklodowska-Curie (Physics & Chemistry), Wislawa Szymborska (Literature), Lech Walesa (Peace) — among Poland's 8 confirmed Nobel laureates.

25Top Universities in Poland▾

The official KRASP QS-2026 compilation — six institutions, plus honest medical-university reputation framing.

Highest-ranked

University of Warsaw, QS World 2026 #271 — Poland's highest-ranked institution.

26Cheapest Universities in Poland▾

An honest cost-ranking page — built only from this pipeline's own verified tuition data.

The affordable end

General Bachelor's/long-cycle Master's from EUR 2,000/year, combined with the Lukasiewicz Scholarship for eligible STEM Master's applicants. Medicine is never part of this comparison — it sits far above every general band.

27Intakes & Application Deadlines in Poland▾

Winter and summer intakes, tied to Poland's 15-week-semester academic year.

Reconfirm per institution

Exact application deadlines are set per institution — never assume a single national deadline applies.

28Admission Requirements in Poland▾

No blanket IELTS figure

English and entrance-exam requirements are set per institution — always confirm the specific requirement for your target programme.

29Document Checklist & Visa Process for Poland▾

One combined, sequenced guide rather than several thin, overlapping pages.

Includes the new NAWA step

Sequenced from admission through NAWA pre-verification, visa application, arrival, and Temporary Residence Permit registration.

30Work Rights & Part-Time Jobs in Poland▾

A genuinely strong feature today, with a reported change worth watching for 2026.

The reported narrowing

Effective 1 July 2026, the current no-work-permit exemption is reportedly narrowing to MSWiA-approved institutions — still covering the major public universities. Confirm with udsc.gov.pl closer to enrolment.

31MBBS in Poland vs Hungary▾

A qualitative comparison using only this pipeline's own already-verified data for both countries — no invented figures.

How to choose

Compare 6-year cumulative tuition, post-study work precision, and FMGE/NMC-recognition sourcing confidence between the two destinations.

32Poland vs Germany▾

Germany wins on general tuition; Poland wins on Medicine specialisation and its current work-rights exemption.

The trade-off

Germany's public universities are largely tuition-free; Poland's real advantage is its NAWA-acknowledged Medicine specialisation, not lower general-tuition cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Key answers on Medicine's real cost, the new NAWA requirement, work rights, and post-study work.

What does an MBBS/MD in Poland actually cost, in total?▾

Per-year tuition runs EUR 13,700/year (Medical University of Warsaw) to EUR 16,000/year for 2026/27 (Jagiellonian University Medical College, up from EUR 15,500 the prior year). Over the full 6-year, 360-ECTS programme, that's EUR 82,200 to EUR 96,000+ in tuition alone, before living costs — always ask for the 6-year total, not just the per-year figure.

What is the new NAWA requirement for Indian students applying to Poland?▾

Effective 1 July 2025, first-year Bachelor's/uniform-Master's applicants whose secondary diploma is not from an EU/OECD/EFTA country or IB must submit NAWA "written information" confirming eligibility to study in Poland, alongside the visa application. The Polish Embassy in India's own page states omitting this "will result in visa refusal."

Can I work while studying in Poland, and are there hour limits?▾

Currently, full-time students at Polish HEIs are generally exempt from needing a work permit, with no weekly hours cap. A reported change effective 1 July 2026 would narrow this to students at MSWiA-approved or exempt institutions — confirm directly with udsc.gov.pl closer to your enrolment date.

How long can I stay in Poland after I graduate to look for a job?▾

A temporary residence permit for a graduate to look for a job or run a business, granted once only, for 9 months — shorter than some competing destinations' post-study routes, and completely absent from most other Poland content online.

Can I practise medicine in India after an MD from Poland?▾

Poland's medical degrees are EU-recognised, but Poland is not FMGE-exempt for India. Graduates must clear the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) for NMC/State Medical Council registration, per natboard.edu.in.

Which cities does Rise Up Overseas serve for Poland visa consulting?▾
